On Saturday I went to see the contemporary 'Stations of the Cross' exhibition, a cooperative venture between Northmead Creative Arts High School, Northmead Uniting Church and the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture. The artists invited to participate are all high profile and awarded artists, and have 9 months to contemplate their artistic response to their allocated subject. which are traditionally 14 specific events imagined on Jesus' last day, but in this case there are 16 with the inclusion of a contemporary Australian perspective. I must say that Contemporary work is not one of my favourite forms of art, though I do enjoy the freedom of expression that it allows, and having the curator discussing how the personal lives of the artists related to their interpretation of the subject gave the exhibition much more meaning to me |
