Upper Colo driving away I had to pick this little creature off the road and put it somewhere safe... in the water

even though it's still midwinter it's almost too hot standing in the sun to start a new large plein air painting!
Catching a glimpse of the remarkable mural by Khadim Ali on the abc TV program Everyone's a critic and then looking up the art of some migrants and refugees depicting the plight of migrants and refugees, and some pictures of 'Protest Art' gave me an idea for the direction to take with my 'Alternative' High School kids Art class which resumed today, thinking about about the reasons why we make art.
Art is about being Expressive and it is about being Creative. It fulfills two needs. It's not about how well you can do something, it is primarily a way of getting an idea, point of view or thought across to somebody else... or just yourself! And being creative has a positive personal result, a sense of satisfaction of having accomplished something... it makes you feel good... and that is a benefit to others as well. Visual art is just a non verbal form of expression, but there are many others, an unlimited number of ways, writing, poetry, music, film, etc. that make 'I'm no good at art' an incentive to explore them! |
